A very quick heads up. There is a chance of seeing some noctillucent clouds this evening. Light pollution will be a problem in built up areas of London and the South East, but still worth a look to the west/north west sky in the next hour or so if you are interested.

Missed it - but having to get up at 04:30 I miss most evening things. Bit cooler this morning though

You didn't miss anything in the end Kremm. The conditions have to be absolutely perfect for these things to form and despite some promising signs last night, they failed to materialise.

I did manage to capture them on camera here a couple of years ago, and if I can find where I stored the images I will post them on here. There are some nice images on this link though:

Closer to home the temperatures today were pegged back a degree or two in the London area by earlier cloud and a refreshing breeze. 24c was the max here, but further west saw the mercury reach 26-28c. A further warm up looks possible as we head into next weekend, with an outside chance of isolated thundery showers as a fragmented cold front from the north meets the warmer air in the south on Saturday. The main storm risk looks to be much further north at this stage. For the south, remaining mostly dry, settled and warm is my prediction.

Might sound odd but we would welcome a quick thunderstorm. My neighbour is having an extension and the dust and sand in the air is horrendous.

They've cut the grass in our local field so I expect they're hoping for a few dry days before they make it into hay bales.

The grass was as tall as me so they've done well this year. It's a bit cooler today and I am happy about that :D

***UPDATED THURSDAY JULY 11TH 2013 @ 19:00 Hrs***

The Met Office issued a Heat/Health advisory earlier today. My earlier attempts at posting were wrecked by IE, so I will try again.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/heat-health/

A brief cool down in our region is set to be followed by another rise in temperatures as we head into the weekend. Wednesday and Thursday saw temperatures of 22-24c ( 72-75f ) in the London area, but are predicted to reach 30-33c ( 86-91f ) by Sunday, and only drop to around 26-28c ( 79-82f) by midweek. Hence the Met Office advisory.

As much as I love this weather, it does present it's own potential health problems to some folk, and at the risk of sounding like a nannying scare monger, it is worth keeping an eye on vulnerable people. Heat can be as much of a danger to health as cold here in the UK. I used to have an incredible tolerance to heat, but in the last few days I have encountered some quite worrying breathing difficulties and some banging headaches.

The prospects of any reliable rainfall look very remote for London and The South East in the next 7-10 days, and seem confined to one or two isolated thunder storms which may or may not turn up just about anywhere over the weekend.

Thanks for reading and posting. Moley 8-)

Iv'e been searching around all the weather related websites, and studying ( as best I can ) the computer models and it seems that barring an unprecedented turnaround, July 2013 is shaping up to be an absolute corker of a summer month. Certainly the best since 2006, and it may even exceed that.

Temperatures are set to rise again, and apart from the East Coast,........ London and The South East could be looking at near wall to wall sunshine for the next week or so. I haven't seen such positive forecasts for a very long time.
