It's lovely today. Warm with a breeze. I don't mind the heat if we get a breeze to go with it

That will be nice :D

I must admit a slight ( albeit temporary ) cooling down would be nice, but it's very much dependant on how far inland the cloud on the East Coast extends on Saturday, and the strength of the predicted easterly breeze. 24c is being widely predicted for London and the South East, but I personally think higher temperatures are still a distinct possibility for some of us.

The REAL breakdown to somewhat cooler and more unsettled weather looks likely to take place from about Wednesday or Thursday of next week, but that looks like being preceded by 2 or 3 days of increasingly hot and humid weather. There is still some doubt as to whether the change will be a fairly benign one, or come about as a result of some potentially quite severe thunderstorms rattling up from the near continent. Based on the information available at this time, I would say the odds are about 60-70% in favour of the latter.

All we seem to get these days are the extremes. Nothing in the middle that you would deem sensible for any length of time.

It does seem that way sometimes Kremm. Thankfully our extremes are less severe than many other countries though. That said the 30c ( 86f ) barrier has just been broken yet again today in Wales of all places, making it the 7th consecutive day in the UK.

Heathrow is currently a rather chilly 28.2c :). It's also the 14th consecutive day that 28c has been reached or exceeded somewhere in the UK.

There is a very reliable weather station just up the road from me in Watford ( it conforms to Met Office standards ) and the owner has just reported that the total rainfall so far for July in that location is 1.0mm. The 30 year average for July in this area is 40-50mm. Unless my maths skills have totally deserted me, I make that about 2% of average, or a 98% rainfall deficit for the month so far.

The temperature according to the display at the top right hand of this website did reach 24c earlier this afternoon in our region, so hat's off to the Met Office for calling it spot on. The highest temperatures were to be found further north and west. Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland seeing maximums of between 27-28c according to latest reports.

The Met Office are now issuing early advisories for the potentialy stormy breakdown of this warm spell across the UK, from as early as Sunday evening.

There is a great deal of uncertainty at this time, but thunderstorms are a distinct possibilty for many areas from Sunday through to next Friday. As a self confessed 'thunderstorm junkie' it's something I will be trying to keep a close watch on.

Whatever the weather, I hope you all have a good weekend. Moley 8-)

I know the British press are renowned for sensationlist headlines, but The Daily Express are in a league of their own and should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves ( yet again ) for this one.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/416170 ... -ravage-UK

Yes it may well reach 31c (91f ) for a day or two next week in some locations and yes, thunderstorms are expected and predicted, but headlines such as this :

' DEADLY 100f HEATWAVE AND KILLER FIRES TO RAVAGE UK '

are quite frankly a gross insult to the intelligence of the British public. The Daily Express in particular has been doing this for years now with ridiculous and totally unfounded weather related headlines. Nathan Rao and Jonathon Powell should take a long hard look at themselves.

Perhaps they should consider a new career, reviving that long forgotten childrens favourite....Jackanory might be a good start.

Rant over. Moley

Worth keeping an eye on for the next few days.

It does like a bit of rain now expected.

Just to help it along I washed the car yesterday.

Wow, such energy Jim! (I always take mine to the car wash)

I'm so pleased it's cooled down - I have been trying hard not to complain about the heat but I was getting bored with the heatwave.
