Thanks Moley for the Daily Mail link. We had a feeling that lack of oxygen and too much bacteria killed our poor fish. We took the lily out of the pond and set it free in Little Britain lake - the frogs will have to fend for themselves.

We will be taking out the pond and not restocking it (it was quite upsetting)

I've just been for a walk in the sunshine - it's still hot out there but it's lovely to walk without a jacket or carrying an umbrella

First of all thanks to everyone who has taken the time and trouble to post. I wish I were computer savvy enough to know how to 'multiquote' and answer the questions, but I'm not, so I cant....sorry :(

Summer is not over by any means yet though. Im quite suprised just how much the temperatures have held up during this supposed 'breakdown'. Heathrow reached 26.9c this afternoon which is still above average. It is yet to be officially confirmed by the Met Office, but it does seem almost certain we have just equalled the longest spell of temperaratures of 28c or more in the UK since 1997, 19 consecutive days.

The prospects for this coming weekend are still very much uncertain, but my personal opinion is London and the South East could well see some quite heavy rainfall as early as Saturday afternoon, but the bulk of the thunderstorms will be concentrated across the English Channel in France and the Benelux countries.

We failed by just one 10th of a degree Celcius to beat that run of 19 days. Norwich recorded 27.9c yesterday. Heathrow ran it a very close second with 27.7c.

It's all about the weekend prospects now though, and less than 24 hours away there is still a great deal of uncertainty about exactly what we in the UK can expect and where.

What is pretty much clear at this stage is that a plume of hot and humid air will be triggering some severe thunderstorm activity in The Bay of Biscay, and this will be heading east/northeast into France and beyond during Saturday. Its the northern movement and extent of these storms that is proving to be so unpredictable at the moment.

Here in London and The South East the rain is expected to arrive from around midday ( Saturday ) onwards, and while some locations may also experience some embedded thunderstorms, I still think the main concern is the potentially heavy rainfall for our region. The Met Office have been issuing advisories about this for several days now.

Surface conditions across much of the region are bone dry, and torrential rainfall could rapidly lead to flash flooding in some areas as a result. See the videos on the attached link for just how quickly this kind of flooding can occur.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, and I hope I'm wrong but I would be failing if I didn't point it out.

They reckon it could be torrential from about 21:00 to midnight :(

Only just spotted this. The fish in my pond died en masse the other day. The same thing happened to me once before.

Jon, that is so sad!

We weren't the only ones it happened to then - that's made me feel a bit better about the whole thing. I know they were just fish but we felt they knew us because they used to come up for feeding when we appeared. It was upsetting.
