They reckon it could be torrential from about 21:00 to midnight :(

Indeed Kremm, we won't have to wait that long though. The first batch is racing across The English Channel right now, and is just about to reach the South Coast then head roughly towards the London area.

Thanks Moley for the Daily Mail link. We had a feeling that lack of oxygen and too much bacteria killed our poor fish. We took the lily out of the pond and set it free in Little Britain lake - the frogs will have to fend for themselves.

We will be taking out the pond and not restocking it (it was quite upsetting)

I've just been for a walk in the sunshine - it's still hot out there but it's lovely to walk without a jacket or carrying an umbrella

Only just spotted this. The fish in my pond died en masse the other day. The same thing happened to me once before.

The fact that Jon also suffered a sudden loss ( sorry to hear that ) seems to back up the lack of oxygen theory then. Ponds are most at risk during thundery weather and it sounds as though these losses coincided with the outbreak of thunderstorms we had earlier this week ??
In the past when I have had ponds and kept fish, a sure sign of distress was the fish coming to the surface and literally gasping for air, even with the pumps working. To overcome that I used to play a hosepipe directly on to the surface of the pond, sometimes for several hours.

Similar conditions are in situ this afternoon across much of The South East. Several thunderstorms already being reported and the heat and humidity has really built over our region this afternoon. It could all go BANG in the next few hours.

Just across The Channel in France, Benelux and Germany severe conditions are being reported.

It really does make you wonder SOT. The South East was like a powder keg this afternoon with temperatures of 29.5c ( Northolt ), high humidity and severe storms on the near continent always threatening to cross the English Channel.

The end result for much of our region was a very damp squib. This video about sums it all up.

It didn't last long, did it?

We have three water butts that are one third full now (they were empty). We have to use soft water for our carnivorous plants in the greenhouse so last night's rain will keep them going for a while.

A suprisingly warm 24c ( 75f ) here in the London area today ( Wednesday July 31st ) given the fact it rained for much of the morning, it was overcast all day and pretty windy with it.

No doubt you are all aware of the one day heatwave due to affect the region tomorrow, with temperatures predicted to reach 30-32c ( 86-90f ), in some locations ??
