Flippin heck - That was a hot one in town

I decided to walk from Pimlico to the strand to make the most of the weather, but only made it as far as Horseferry rd and had to stop for a drink as it was sooo hot, before finishing the journey by bus. OK the bus was hot, but the sun was unbearable.

Spare a though for the mounted guardsmen at horsegaurds in whitehall. Now that must be hot!

This is an old photo, but it shows the kit they have to endure!!

It has been really hot today and our thermometer on the shed says it's 33 degrees (and that's in the shade)

We took the dog for a walk this morning, came home and have just been lazing around indoors in the cool since then.

31 - 32°C later :(

Official Met Office reading at Heathrow was 33.7 c ( 93f ) at 5pm this evening, despite a strong southerly breeze and occasional high cloud. The heat seems widespread throughout London and The South East, with some remarkably high figures along much of the South East Coast. The onshore breezes which usually cool the coastal fringe are doing the opposite today.

Not suprising given that temperatures on the near continent are approaching 40c. Iv'e not really had a chance to look at the prospects for the next few days, but would expect temperatures to start falling back as we head towards the weekend.

Edited by Moley: The Met Office have recently confirmed the official highest temperature today was in fact 34.1c.....at Heathrow. It's still 32c ( 90f ) at 7pm.

You will rarely hear me complain about warm weather, but I'm really struggling today with this heat, thankfully it's a short lived event.

It may be fine if you are on or close to the coast and have the cooling sight and sound of the waves lapping on the shore. It's a whole different ball game if you are housebound in a built up area, surrounded by the constant din of traffic, trains and sirens, and can't even open a window because of the noise.

Moley :(

Indeed it did Kremm. 34.2c was the final official figure from the Met Office for Heathrow yesterday, beating the previous highest temperature in the UK so far this year......33.5c on July 22nd at.....Heathrow.

Hats off to the Met Office for accurately predicting this one day heatwave several days ago. Shame on them though for removing the warnings of thunderstorms, literally hours before a whole mass of thunderstorms swept through parts of the South East, London and East Anglia earlier this morning. The warnings had been in place all week for these storms to occur, and they did. The Met Office inexplicably removed the warnings very late on.

Looking ahead, the next 7 days show a fairly typical spell of weather for our region. Expect a mix of sunshine and showers with temperatures around or just above average for this time of year. Today temperatures reached 26c, and for the next week I expect them to range between 23-26c (73-79f ).

The Azores High is being deflected from ours shores by the Jet Stream shifting further south again. All in all it's not a particularly bad outlook, but no immediate return to the recent sunshine and heat.

Whatever the weather, thanks for reading and posting and have a great weekend. Moley 8-)

This afternoons deluge should have pleased the gardeners amongst you !!

It's been a very long time since I saw rain that torrential for that long, it lasted almost 3 hours here and was almost tropical at times.

Still a mixed week ahead with temperatures around average for the time of year. A big contrast from July.

The rain started just as we got home from a walk round Ruislip Lido. Phew! We would have got soaked if we'd still been walking round there.

Our two water butts have healthy levels in them now which will please him indoors because he uses it for carnivorous plants and pleases me because he's not using the water distiller in the shed and running up the electricity bill.

It's a lovely sunny morning right now :D

I caught it out -

Day off yesterday so washed the car. Sure enough at 05:30 this morning it started tipping it down, normally the time I leave for work.

Car safely tucked up in the garage as I've got today off as well
