What is the overtime ban, (dispute) all about? The article is silent on it.
Given it's only March and the Olympics are in August why so much pessimism as to why it will not be solved?
You are right Geezer! I am not sure how that crept through unnoticed!!!!! I am disgusted with myself
Jim is right that the Olympics is seen as a huge bargaining tool by the unions. To be fair, firefighters in London have made massive changes to their working practices which have made the brigade more efficient. But they have also been subject to huge (and as they see it) hugely unacceptable changes to their pension which will see them firefighting well in to their 60s, and in return, they will receive a far reduced pension, despite the fact their contributions have shot up wildly.
The other aspect to the dispute is a legacy from previous disputes where FBU leaders and LFB management (led by the odious toad Brian Coleman) are still annoying each other in a 1970s employer v Union sort of way. It's pathetic. However, even if nothing comes from this threat to the Olympics, there are bound to be other unions flexing their collective muscles over that time.
