A reasonable explanation of how the potential storm was being predicted almost a week before it formed in this link:

We had warnings for this weather up in Milton Keynes too. The trees barely moved, we got a little rain though.

Lucky for you then if you were up in that balloon!

The first main stream media to warn about the weather was the Daily Express which predicted the storm on its front page last Thursday. Well done Express!!

One severe storm then.

I posted my 'it wasn't that bad' based on the expected 06:00 peak. After 6 it really started for an hour.

Please tell me that was a seriously tongue in cheek irony laden comment Jon ? I cannot for one minute believe you actually meant that. :(

It was Kremm, and it's fair to say that we ' dodged a bullet ' here in the UK, Southern England in particular. It came closer to being a repeat of 1987 and 1990 than at first realised according to a number of follow up studies I have been reading.

Exactly as predicted by the Met Office the storm intensified as it exited the UK and crossed The North Sea around 9-10am Monday morning. It then headed towards The Netherlands, Northern Germany and Denmark, gaining strength all the while. Maximum wind gusts recorded in a number of locations over there were between 100-120mph, matching our 1987 extremes.

We were lucky, had that storm deepened just 6 hours earlier it would have been a near repeat of that fateful event.

The unsettled theme looks set to continue for the forseeable future, with a wet and windy weekend on the cards for much of the country as another Low Pressure System moves in. Sunday currently looks to be the worst day of the weekend.

Beyond that it's a case of rinse and repeat, with Bonfire/Guy Fawkes night ( November 5th ) showing the potential for further heavy rain and gales. Autumn is definately making its presence felt.

I noted the temp this morning when I set out was only 4°C which is a safer temp where 'hot meets cold' storms go.

Well perhaps we should all just read the Daily Express front page headlines from now on for our weather forecasts. Nathan Rao is one of their main contributors to a subject he clearly knows nothing about.

Make of that what you will. Then there is always Piers Corbyn, who is quite frankly bonkers. If you want even more weird and wacky forecasters just google James Madden and/or Exacta Weather.

There is one common denominator here. They are all regularly named and quoted on the front page of the Daily Express making ridiculous forecasts, and have been proven wrong time and time again. Thats not journalism, it's plain irresponsible.

The usual suspects are at it again I see. I really do despair.
