Another fairly mild evening, perfect for my ride to badminton at Iver. Due to do a ride to Langley Park tomorrow, what's the weather up to

It's usual tricks I'm afraid BG.

Another weather front is approaching our region from the south west on Wednesday bringing the potential for more rain. Some charts are suggesting the rain will be to the south of London until late afternoon and evening, but the Met Office are saying otherwise according to this animated projection:

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weat ... &lat=51.55

This shows the rain reaching us by around midday or earlier, and continuing well into the evening. As it's being carried in on a warm front temperatures may well reach 14-16c ( 57-61f) for a time. So, at this time all I can say is we are due for more rain but I can't pinpoint the timing I'm afraid.

I used to live in Langley many moons ago, and Langley Park holds some fond memories, along with Black Park just across the road from there.

Anyway, how about this for something completely different ? Here's yet another weather related phenomenon I have never seen before. Strong winds driving a layer of creeping ice onshore from a lake in Minnesota USA:

Minutes later this tide of ice was actually smashing through the patio windows of the shorefront homes and going right through them. The power and beauty of nature never ceases to amaze me.

Thanks to all who read my ramblings, and posts are especially welcomed. Moley 8-)

Well I was dreading the bike ride tonight, but as we had a group of 5 people who had made the effort I couldn't let them down. Despite having got the log burner going I managed to motivate myself and put on extra layers and waterproofs in readiness for the expectant rain only to be pleasantly dry at the end of ride at the Malt Shovel to be completely dry and fairly warm.

After an hour we headed down through Little Britain and met with light shower, I guess it might be the start of a wet night.

I admire your resiliance BG. At least once the main rain belt had moved through earlier today it held off for your evening bike ride, but by then the winds were gusting at 30-36mph for a time. The later band of rain has all but moved through now.

The next few days continue with the unsettled theme, but with some clearer spells developing as a colder airflow temporarily tries to make inroads later on Thursday and into the weekend. Wednesdays maximum of 15.6c ( 61f ) at Heathrow is unlikely to be reached again for the forseeable future. I expect temperatures more in the region of 8-10c ( 46-50f ) for a day or two at least. Milder on Southern coasts.

High Pressure is still trying to make its presence felt over London and the South East by the weekend, but everything depends on where the Jet Stream decides to go. The threat of a another significant Atlantic storn this weekend seems to be rapidly diminishing.

I am currently trying to follow the events unfolding in The Philippines where Typhoon Haiyan is about to make landfall. This is showing worrying signs of becoming the most powerful storm in recorded history.

Sustained winds of 196mph are being projected, with gusts approaching 235mph. That's beyond my comprehension to be quite honest. The only saving grace is that it looks like avoiding the main population areas, and the forecasters have tracked this with incredible precision.

Well what a difference between 2 days, Saturday I had planned a 20 mile bike ride from West Drayton to Cranford, Minet and Stockley parks with the idea of ending up at the Wetherspoons, joining the canal at Tesco we met some Swans and the rain just didn't let up at all. So as we approached the menacing swans that didn't look like they were going to move anytime soon or the rain for that matter, we retreated back to the house for a dry out and some tea. We still made it to Cranford park for the organised walk, but we drove and suitable wellies for the mud.

Today however, clear blue skies all day meant a very pleasant ride to and from Spelthorne leisure centre, clocking a muntjac and I think woodpecker on route. Back by 1.30 to have a quick cuppa and croissant before chucking the fairly muddy bike in the back of the car as I headed to Ickenham for the bike ride to Ruislip Lido. Oh my I had not seen so much mud but again the weather held out if a bit cold.

I can only marvel at BG's stamina and enthusiasm, but I really appreciate the posts, including details of the wildlife encountered along the way, even more-so now I am housebound.

After yesterdays clear skies and sunshine it was back to the slate grey skies and rain here again today, but not before Raf Northolt managed to record it's first sub zero temperature of the Autumn with -0.1c at 1am this morning.

The unsettled theme looks set to continue for the rest of this week but here in London and The South East we should see the best of any drier and brighter interludes. The first snowfall of the season has been reported on Northern Hills, though the Scottish mountains had their first snow over a week ago.

What made me chuckle is that we just had a company 'building update' that the replacement 'chiller' unit has just been delivered and the whole building will be closed on Saturday whilst a crane lifts the unit to the top of the 4 story roof.

I suppose they will upgrade the heaters in mid July !!!

Thank you Moley I was worried about going off topic, but as the weather determines my activities and the enjoyment I feel it's quite apt, if you feel it's not I'm happy to post my biking stories elsewhere on the forum.

Anyway we are due out tonight to the Malt Shovel for the Pub Quiz at 8pm, so great genie of the weather what will it be like at 7pm til 10:30pm ish.

Will we drive or cycle? Its only five miles if that

Won't it depend on if it rains or not BG? I admire your energy - I used to cycle everywhere but these days I prefer to drive.

It was cold last night here Moley and when I went to bed noticed the cars outside were covered in ice but this morning it was warmer and raining - the weather is quite weird at the moment.
