Moley - The worst flooding I have come across locally is Moorhall Road, by the Horse & Barge Pub

The water is about 300mm deep and running from north to south very rapidly. I reckon it would be difficult (not impossible) to walk in it. There's quite a bit of water on the road, the car park to the pub has gone and it wont be long before the pub is flooded (if it isn't already)

I found this photo of the UK wide fire service response to the Somerset floods. A huge amount of specialist pumping & support vehicles and crew at a holding point before being tasked.

The pumping capacity of the combined pumps is around 150,000 litres a minute

The media seem transfixed by the political argument of the floods - It's a shame they don't focus a bit more on what the Govt are doing like this huge response

(apologies about the link - scroll down to January 31st for the photo of the gathered kit)

Unfortunately things are going to get worse before they get better. The River Thames is in an unforgiving mood locally.

More rain on and off during the week, with further Met office warnings for The South.

Oh the irony :

Watching all the news reports and coverage about the Thames flooding one thing struck me in particular.

The news crews were/still are simultaneously reporting from two villages less than 3 miles apart but the authorities response in those villages appeared to be very different.

The affluent and picturesque village of Datchet saw the arrival of 40 foot articulated lorries carrying sandbags, and members of the forces rapidly building flood defences. Hats off to all concerned for that effort but........just 2.7 miles down the road the residents of the less affluent and less picturesque village of Wraysbury are apparently being left to get on with it amongst themselves with no outside help at all so far. Maybe I am reading the situation wrongly, but that's how it has appeared to me.

If you or anyone you know, lives in or plans to travel in the areas currently under a Severe Flood Warning please take take the EA warnings seriously. With more rain on the way the situation will almost certainly worsen in the next few days.

You are right. The talk here yesterday was that once the £1m+ mansions started to be under threat, out came the Army.

Thank you for confirming I am not paranoid Kremmen. The army are still nowhere to be seen in Wraysbury according to the latest news.

I have tried my best to keep politics out of this weather topic but the politicians themselves have now made this an issue. I am too angry to post my true thoughts now, and perhaps its for another forum.

Sorry. Moley. :x

Brilliant, just brilliant. Well done Sue Burrows and all the other local volunteers who are doing their utmost to help their communities in a time of crisis:

Indeed Kremmen and I believe gusts in excess of 100mph were officially recorded in some locations in Wales yesterday. This latest storm tracked further north than initially projected so the north and north west suffered the worst of it this time around.

Folk far more knowledgeable than me are now keeping tabs on the potential for another spell of bad weather heading our way on Friday/Saturday, and this could impact more on our region of London and The South East.

I will try and keep this topic updated nearer the time, but I'm struggling to be honest. I have invited a highly respected member of the weather fraternity to post here in due course, so fingers crossed, he will accept my invitation. Watch this space.
