At a rough guess I suspect it's Kremmens retirement day !!

A Bright and sunny start to the day here in Northwood, kicked off by the stunning sight of Venus and a big crescent moon side by side.

Lovely down here on the Sussex coast too and the Moon and Venus made a nice welcoming slide into the day.

Some possibility of rain now on Friday, hopefully clearing early Saturday:

Although not as sunny as previously thought:

The Met Office also going for rain during Friday's daylight hours, but a possibility during Saturday too:

Looks like we're not quite clear of the regular rain just yet.

Rumours on the media and elsewhere of snow tomorrow for UK higher ground. I suspect this maybe more to the North of London, mainly affecting Oxfordshire and Bucks - whatever does land will most likely be slushy and won't hang around for long. Really not worth taking the kids out of school for, even though it's been a quiet Winter for them on the sledging and snowman scene!

I agree with the kids bit but it's probably the teachers who would be too scared to venture out or their Union will block them on H&S reasons

Belated thanks BG, it's a long term thing though hence my reduced posts here.

Anyway back on to the weather and today, Friday February 28th signals the final day of the meteorological winter of 2013/2014.

What a winter it has been, and not in a good way. The sheer persistance of the Atlantic and the Jet Stream driving one storm after another into the UK has led to rainfall records going back as far as 1766 ( depending on source ) being broken.

My take, and I stand to be corrected on this, is that the positioning of the Jet Stream for much of this winter has been responsible for sending most of these storms further south than would be usual in our winter months. Hence the South of the UK has borne the brunt of wet and windy weather more often than not.

For the same reason this winter has also been noticably mild here in London and The South East, and I am struggling to find one single report of snow falling anywhere in our region, a marked contrast to last year.

Thanks as always for reading and posting and I hope to be updating soon.

In the meantime let's welcome in Spring. Moley. 8-)

Thanks Kremmen but it ain't going to happen. Degenerative spinal condition so it's just a case of managing it.

Anyways.....It's the first day of the Meteorological Spring and very welcome it is too. I often cheer myself up by watching this very good quality live webcam from the pier at Bognor Regis:

http://www.bognorregisbeach.co.uk/live

Although I haven't been able to delve in any great detail yet, there are tentative signs that the Jet Stream may be considering a more northerly track towards the end of next week. If so we may see pressure rising to our south, which would suggest a more settled weather pattern for London and The South East is on the cards.

Thanks as always for reading and posting. Moley. 8-)

Well spring has definitely sprung as our ride to Denham Country Park started off chilly with slight mist turned to glorious sunshine as we devoured our ham and cheese toasties at the tea room near Denham deep lock.

It was lovely sitting watching the birds, dog walkers & joggers out and about, made me feel like the world was waking up from hibernation. Unfortunately we were unable to do our planned route to the golf course due to the paths being underwater will probably try again in April.

I hope this weather holds out for a few more hours as I plan to go out again this time in the direction of Ruislip Lido or at least to Swakelys park.

Does anyone know how the river pinn has held up?

I really enjoyed reading your report BG, many thanks for sharing it. The River Pinn seems to be fine and has not been affected by the recent flooding according to the EA.

Today is a glorious ( albeit chilly ) start to Spring here in London and The South East.

I sort of know how you feel because that's one of the conditions the wife had :(
