Good evening all and what a difference a day makes, especially at this time of year. Yesterday ( Friday) saw a mix of heavy, thundery showers close to our region and there were several reports of hail, sleet and even some wet snow.

Today saw temperatures rising to 19.2c at Northolt, despite winds gusting at times to 30mph :

At this time of year I would expect the wind to take the edge off temperatures, but this was a south easterly off the near continent, and it bought a blast of warmer air. Kremmen may wish to take note that the current weather conditions indicate a chance of Saharan dust deposits reaching our region in the next few days. Get that car under cover Kremm !!

The next few days are quite interesting, and there are signs that some thundery showers may well head our way from the south early next week. Coast is the man for forecasting them.

I looked at the forecast late last week and noted that today and Tuesday were to be rain with Tuesday having a possibility of thunder and lightning.

I therefore decided not to wash the car over the weekend and this morning the BBC forecast is for no rain till Thursday when I'm working from home anyway so the car is in the garage.

Ermmmm possibly! Anything thundery today looks to be to the North of us. There may be a few bangs and flashes in The Channel later tomorrow but Friday late afternoon is where I'm currently focusing for a little bit of convective action for us this week:

Good evening all and thanks as always for reading and posting.

Well there have been widespread reports of vehicles being dusted with sand from the Sahara in the last couple of days, and the dust reached the London area overnight Sunday/Monday. Indications are that there is plenty more of it in the atmosphere above us, and it's likely to hang around for much of this week. I wouldn't be cleaning the car just yet.

It certainly isn't helping my asthma.

Low pressure to the west and a south/south easterly flow from the continent would suggest a continuation of mild temperatures in our region for the next few days, but always with the outside chance of some thundery weather encroaching. The thunderstorms are currently confined to the west of England and Wales, but that may change over the next few days.

Foggy patches this morning and it has been raining in Surrey overnight. Quite heavy looking at the puddles in the road.

Yep, I had the same thought looking outside this morning:

I take it you're not driving with the top down just yet then Coast ??!!

A fairly gloomy morning here in Northwood gave way to clear blue skies this afternoon and the mercury responded nicely as a result. 19-20c quite widely across the South East is none to shabby for this time of year. I'm happy about that.

The Daily Excess really are in a league of their own when it comes to scaremongering sensationalist headlines but this one goes way over the top in my opinion:

By all means alert folk to the potential health hazard but headlines talking of Killer Smog are just beyond belief.

Or keep an eye on London live pollution levels yourself here on an interactive map:
