Another sleepless night then !

Currently it's 30.6°C in the shade here and I'm sweating doing nothing.

It certainly was a great show last night, but not really welcomed on a 'School night'!
There was a flock of weary looking staff daydreaming their way around my office this afternoon with only coffee keeping them awake & upright. :)

I look forward to tonight's show Moley (as I can lay in tomorrow) and hope you get some of it down there in Hastings

Looks like nothing came of it last night. Just 2 flashes and bangs about 04:00 so far. Looks like this afternoon is the flash, bang, wallop, rain time.

So I see (Monday morn) that roads have been closed in Surrey and Essex due to flooding !

Nothing here overnight so had another lucky escape.

I haven't seen or heard any of the storms! Slept through the first night and must have been working/sleeping during the rest.

I have colleague who live in Kent near the Medway who said they had never seen rain fall like last night. Only for a hour, but huge quantities. At the same time I was watering mine :)

My goodness, yesterday afternoon!!!! One moment, a boiling hot sunny, summer's day. Then out of nowhere.... dark clouds swept over as far as the eye could see, torrential, driving rain, thunder & lightning..!!!! Wowwww.

Yes

... and a lightning strike at a major rail signal power box in Twyford. The daughter took 4 hours getting home from Reading and she was lucky. They let one train through after over an hour, which she fought to get on. That one took an hour to get from Reading to Maidenhead so they cancelled all the others. People at Paddington just stood/sat there from 16:00 to 20:00+ with no trains. At Slough they just turfed everyone off.

OK so the signalling is out but why not let one train through, stop at all stations and when it's cleared one station let the next one through ? At least there would be some sort of service.

They haven't a clue

Kremmen:

I believe that in addition to signalling equipment, lightening can often damage other safety critical circuits such as those which confirm that points are set and locked. I can't imagine anyone would take the risk of putting an overcrowded train over a set of points - at any speed - that may unlock as the train is passing.

Mind you, 4hrs from Reading? That's tough, especially in this heat

Yes, hopefully a one off this bad but FGW Reading to Hayes has been a bit problematical of late.
