OUCH! Looks like he may have hit something thin, tall and pole-like.

A lamppost or maybe a rising bollard? Any Idea Jon??

Security guard told me she hit a car reversing out of a space. Looks like someone's head it the windscreen hard on the passenger side even though both air bags went off.

Where's the body colour front bumper gone ?

If she didn't see someone reversing slowly out of a space then was she texting? I don't say that out of jest because I see so many women texting whilst driving these days. Men are usually holding the phone to their ear. They should increase the fine to £500 min for both as it's so dangerous.

With so many mobile phones now having GPS capability it ought to be possible for the phone to automatically be disabled if it is moving, i.e. changing location. Then it would be end of problem.

Bit awkward on a train journey or if you are a passenger. I agree with the thought though.

Such a function could provide for some long awaited peace and quiet on train and bus journeys. Mobile phones that are automatically disabled when in motion could also reduce the numbers of accidents caused by pedestrians jay-walking whilst on the phone; perhaps then phone users would seek out a safe place to stand and make their call.

I'm just tossing around ideas here. With modern vehicles being equipped with a lot of built-in monitoring functionality, I reckon automatic disabling of mobile phones in cars would be very simple to implement. For example; car seats are now fitted with sensors to detect and warn to wear seat belts; again, it would be a relatively simple change to link the seat sensors to disabling mobile phones – for passengers there could even be an over-ride button that is out of reach of the driver. Or, front seats only disable the mobile phones, with rear seats having an over-ride facility, possibly with a time limit for phone enabling. Seats would probably need to be fitted with at least two-point sensors in order to reduce the possibility of a driver attempting to over-ride the system by placing a heavy load on the rear seats.

I'm sure that the problem of car drivers using mobile phones while driving is fixable, it is the will that is lacking.

You're right about jaywalking, I saw two a year back walk into each other

Maybe they could increase the technology to supermarket checkout queues as well to prevent the selfish ones holding up the rest of us.

I'd love to see a checkout person get there phone out and delay the customer accordingly and see what there reaction was :D
