Yep, only a fraction of what I was expecting and Sunday now forecast as being dry. Not much hope of any hosepipe ban reprieve :(

** UPDATED MONDAY MARCH 19th 2012 **

Well the weekend was not overly unpleasant in the end, but the rainfall totals for areas which most need the rain were pretty woefull.

The start of the ( normal ? ) working week here in London and The South East was ushered in with a fairly cold start. -2c at Northolt, under mostly clear skies, and a decent amount of sunshine for most of us this morning. The thermometer has been slow to respond, reaching a maximum so far of 12.3c, and now falling away again. Tonight should see temperatures remaining above freezing for much of the region as cloud levels increase.

Tuesday is likely to be mostly cloudy but dry. With High Pressure again taking charge the signs are for a mostly settled and benign** week weather wise, with temperatures slowly rising as the week progresses. We could see some parts of our region reaching 18-20c ( 64-68f ) towards the end of the week as a southerly airflow takes hold.

** I starred this comment because there is just a hint that a possible feature may develop to the South of the UK later this week. Some of the charts and models are showing the potential for a disturbance to build around Thursday or Friday. IF....and at this stage its a big IF, this happens, we could be looking at something more in the way of rain for the South East. I wouldn't rule out a chance for nature to provide its very own light show either !! Time will tell, and I will be updating thoughout the week.

As always, thanks for reading and posting. Moley 8-)

I have spent some time browsing through the various weather websites Im a member of, and there seems to be growing agreement that as we head towards and into April, the 'blocking pattern' of weather we have been experiencing for what seems like months on end may well change in the coming weeks.

Last April was a record breaker for warmth and sunshine for us in London and The South East. The odds now seem to be stacked in favour of this April being a bit of a shocker by comparison. Cold, wet and windy anyone ?

Of course its far from certain this far out, thats why its known as FI ( Fantasy Island ) in weather websites, but I thought it worth mentioning.

Some quite remarkable weather occurring in the USA just recently. I was thinking about posting this in the ' Elsewhere fine ' thread, but ideally would like to open a new topic for weather worlwide. Otherwise this kind of thing tends to get lost in a myriad of posts all over the place. Any thoughts on that please?

Never mind the USA ; here in Southern Ontario we have loads of crocus blooms in the garden; tulips shooting up and the trees coming into bud !
We are usually fighting snow and sleet in March ! It is 18c outside today. Usually around 0c

Ive seen some reports of the exceptional weather thats also affecting some parts of Canada as well as the USA so thanks for posting that gmr. As long as its ok with admin I will open a new thread in the weather section to cover events worldwide. I haven't had the chance to reply to Brians post about the heatwave in Australia yet.

The one thing I would ask is that folk who post give me a rough idea at least of their location in their profile/avatar. Some folk are in Canada, some in the USA, and some in Australia. Its not clear who is where when I read the posts !!

^^ Have a word BG. You want me to try and nail it down to a specific 4 hour period some 4 days away ?? Good grief.

If I could get anywhere near that level of accuracy I would be retired and living a life of luxury on a sun blessed Caribbean Island by now believe me.

All joking aside this weekend is showing some quite promising signs of remaining settled, dry, and fairly warm for London and The South East. Im still tracking the developments just to our south which may affect us late on Thursday and/or into Friday. At worst it seems we might have a few showers on Friday, but nothing of note in this rain starved region. As always its subject to change, but for now if I had any plans for outdoor activities this weekend, I would say the prospects look quite good.

Thanks for reading and posting. Moley 8-)

NB: I had an update from friends on the South Coast this afternoon, who reported sea fog affecting coastal regions in East Sussex and Kent. That more or less confirms a southerly breeze has set up. So temperatures should slowly increase inland in the next few days.

^^ Im going right out on a limb here, but the feature I mentioned in an earlier post which might bring some much needed rainfall to London and The South East late Thursday and into Friday, now looks like heading further west. It MAY miss our region altogether. Its still undecided.

For now though the prospects for this weekend are still looking quite good for us here in the South East if its sunshine and warm temperatures you want. We could possibly reach 20-21c (68-70f ) all being well. Of course thats all dependant on when Kremm decides to wash and polish his car

I have recently opened up a new thread ( Thanks admin, and Jon in particular ) to discuss, report and comment on the weather elsewhere in the world, so please feel free to read and post there. The link is here :
