Wow.

Sitting in my living room just now ( 7.10pm Friday ) and I heard a distinctive chug chug chug sound. I live within yards of the Metropolitan Line which runs out to Watford/Amersham.

I recognised the sound immediately, and rushed outside just in time to catch a glimpse of the steam engine as it passed by. Until a few years ago this used to be an annual event on this line, always on a Bank Holiday, but then Tfl stopped it.

Well it seems it has now made a welcome return this weekend. I haven't had a chance to find any further information yet, but if previous years are anything to go by this reminder of a glorious past should be making several journeys back and forth over the weekend. Worth looking out for if are at all interested.

Shame on Tfl for not widely publicising it, unless they have and I wasn't aware. If anyone can find a schedule please post it here.

Moley 8-)

There are probably dozens of photo's around Sunshine but for now I found this one.

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/tube150/ ... 59604.html

I am hoping to get a few myself over the weekend and will post them here if I can. Annoyingly although the line is just yards from my front door, it passes here on an embankment and the view is not particularly good. However next door is the park in Chestnut Avenue and the line levels out there as it approaches Northwood Hills. Failing that the station car park at Northwood should offer some good photo opps.

Its good that its running several times throughout the next 3 days. Even someone as slow as me might have a chance of capturing it !!

It really was a lovely sight and sound though.

Here it is........

Image

I can remember travelling from Kings Cross to Edinburgh in the very early 1960's (I would have been about 4 or 5) My Mother came from Edinburgh so we used to go quite often. I will always remember the unique smell associated with steam trains. There is nothing else quite like it.

When you have travelled on this machine everything else is 'old hat'..... 8-)
