It's sunny here now and hubby is working on the shed again. He wants to paint the walls inside it tomorrow so let's hope the rain holds off then.

It's looking good though - a lot different to the leaky building that it was a couple of weeks ago.

We took the old roof off because it was leaking asbestos panels. Now it has a smart new bitumen roof and a new door. It also has been painted white inside. When one of my sons was a lot younger he thought it a good idea to paint half the inside of the shed - if he hadn't done that we wouldn't have needed to repaint it today.

tomorrow I'm off out for the day - not sure what hubby will be doing. He was talking about moving a bed and a stereo (hope he wasn't serious)

What's the weather doing tomorrow then Moley?

My apologies Sunshine, I have only just seen your post. Well on Thursday I did say the prospects for today ( Sunday ) were uncertain, though in later posts I said we should see a return to sunnier conditions this weekend. So I was half right/half wrong, depending on which prediction you read :?

The biggest forecasting headache at the moment is this nagging north easterly wind, and just how far inland it will push the cloud that forms over The North Sea. Yesterday for example once the cloud broke up inland, temperatures eventually rose to 20/21c ( 68/70f ) under mostly clear blue skies. Near the eastern facing coasts ( Norfolk/Suffolk/Essex/East Kent ) it stayed cloudy all day, some places had drizzle and the maximum temperature was 11/14c ( 52/57f ).

Today that cloud cover is much further inland and looks reluctant to clear, so temperatures in London are stuggling to reach 14c ( 57F ). It's a bit like playing pin the tail on the donkey at the moment. Sorry.

Moley :(

.........We should hold on to these settled conditions for a few more days at least though Sunday still looks a bit uncertain. The real breakdown to more unsettled weather will take place next week though, from about Tuesday onwards. We lose the high pressure and the Atlantic influence takes control bringing much more in the way of cloud, rain and below average temperatures.

As things stand, that unsettled theme looks like staying in place well into the 3rd week of June so no signs of a prolonged summery spell just yet.......

**UPDATED WEDNESDAY JUNE 12TH 2013 **

That was my prediction last Thursday, June 6th and sorry to say that's pretty much the way its working out. The MET OFFICE have issued A WEATHER WARNING for London and The South East with strong to gale force winds tomorrow in our region ( Thursday, June 13th ).

I have been looking further ahead and one or two of the computer models did show the chance of a change next week to much warmer, albeit humid conditions. At one point they were suggesting maximum temperatures of 30-32c ( 86-90f ) in London with a strong risk of thunderstorms. They have now backed down from that, but as always with the weather, things can change.

More of my own thoughts tomorrow. Thanks for reading and posting. Moley 8-)

I've felt quite cold this evening but at least the shed has its roof (and it doesn't leak)

Next job is to tidy the front garden and then cut the grass. I thought retirement meant a life of ease but I never seem to stop - there's always something to do.

Moley

Is there going to be any sign of a break in the weather in the future, we have lots of events in Hastings planned over next couple of months, including the last flight of the Vulcan on Saturday, will we be able to see it I know we will hear it. This misty drizzle is winter all over again. Any ray of sunshine?

Good afternoon and thanks for posting folks. I just wish I could tell you all that summer is on its way, but it's not so I can't. :(

In fairness last week was quite pleasant for most of our region, with several days of near unbroken sunshine, but this week has been a complete reversal with just 30 minutes of sunshine since Sunday morning in my neck of the woods. The wind has shifted from the north east to the south west and it's blowing a hooley here this afternoon.

Im not at all convinced about the next 4 weeks being a washout, but for the next 10 days at least there is nothing to suggest a major change from the current unsettled weather. Thats not to say it's all doom and gloom of course. There will be ocassional bright and sunny spells, but they will be brief and as I said earlier, it's like trying to pin a tail on the donkey predicting when they will be.

While our neighbours on the continent look set to have a heatwave next week ( 30/35c - 86/95f ) here in Blighty we will probably see closer to 19/23c ( 66/73f ).

So far all 5 months of this year have been colder and cloudier than the long term average in the UK, and many farmers and gardeners are reporting poor growing conditions and crops way behind where they should be. In a further twist of fate, rainfall is below average and the persistent strong winds are drying the soil out a lot quicker so it's a quadruple whammy on that front.

I hope my next update can offer something more positive, but don't hold your breath, and please don't shoot the messenger !!

Thanks for reading and posting. Moley :geek:
