Thanks Moley

Sigh! Are our tomatoes and strawberry plants going to do well? somehow, I don't think so.

Oh well, there's always next summer .........

Unfortunately my gardening days are over so the only way I can keep up with horticultural matters is via the t'internet these days. The growing season is definately delayed and stunted this year though.

Blossom has been badly affected by the winds, and pollenating insects are down by 50% in some cases as a result of the extended winter and very cold spring. It's all a bit grim and I honestly wish I could be the bearer of some good news on the weather front.

It's OK Moley - at least we aren't having to the put the central heating on at the moment.

I'm off to a BBQ on Saturday - we need dry weather for that so cross your fingers for us

I will do Sunshine and assuming the bbq is late afternoon/evening time you SHOULD** be ok. In fact the weekend as a whole should be fairly reasonable, but nothing to get too excited about. Some brighter/sunny spells, the odd shower here and there and temperatures around 18-22c ( 64f-72f ). Cooler on the coast.

** I say SHOULD because Low Pressure is a feature of our weather this weekend and thunderstorms are already breaking out across The Midlands, just as they did yesterday
( Thursday ).

An active cold front is expected to cross the British Isles later tonight and into the early hours of Saturday morning, and this could well produce more widespread thunderstorms, heavy rain/hail and some gusty winds as it sweeps through. The timing of this front is subject to change, but for London and The South East it is likely to be sometime between Midnight Friday and 6am Saturday as things stand. I will try and keep an eye on this, and update my posts nearer the time.

Moley. 8-)

On the subject of something I mentioned in an earlier post. Bad news about the bee population, and the effects it will have on plant/fruit pollination.

Our strawberries are doing well. We don't have any ready for eating yet but they look like they are on track. The tomatoes are so very slow that I wonder if they're worth bothering with.

BBQ is from 4 pm onwards tomorrow and is to celebrate my son's birthday. I never eat BBQ'd food but don't fancy spending time in a cold wet garden so am pleased to hear we might be free of rain.

Fingers still firmly crossed for you Sunshine. There are showers about, mainly to our south west at the moment, heading roughly in our direction but nothing major being seen or reported.

Ironically, and daft though this may sound, you don't want too much in the way of sun this afternoon. Several key ingredients are already in place for heavy showers to develop, and surface heating from the sun would be the trigger to set them off.

Hope you, and everyone else has a great day whatever the weather.
