I will do Sunshine and assuming the bbq is late afternoon/evening time you SHOULD** be ok. In fact the weekend as a whole should be fairly reasonable, but nothing to get too excited about. Some brighter/sunny spells, the odd shower here and there and temperatures around 18-22c ( 64f-72f ). Cooler on the coast.

** I say SHOULD because Low Pressure is a feature of our weather this weekend and thunderstorms are already breaking out across The Midlands, just as they did yesterday
( Thursday ).......

I am hanging my head in shame and embaressment. Now in my defence I did add that all important word 'SHOULD' , and that 2nd paragraph qualifying why, but even so........

The 'odd shower' has turned out to be an absolutely torrential downpour here in Northwood with gutters and drains overflowing and rain cascading off the rooftops like the Niagara Falls.
My sincere apologies Sunshine.

Moley   :( :(

Don't apologise to me Moley - I took my sparkly umbrella and it didn't rain where I went (Abbots Langley)

I don't think the rain would have mattered anyway - the party would have just moved indoors

Phew...I am so relieved to hear that Sunshine !!

That was an incredibly condensed area of torrential rain yesterday afternoon, no more than about 10 -15 miles 'wide' from north to south, but 'length' wise it stretched from west of London through to Essex and Sufffolk.

The weather potential for the coming week is now throwing up some interesting prospects. A few posts back I mentioned some of the computer models were hinting at some very warm and humid air in our region towards the middle of the week. They later ditched that idea, but today they are bringing it back into play.

The near continent looks like heating up considerably this week, with temperatures in France, Germany etc predicted to reach the low to mid 30's C ( 90's F ). Some of that heat shows signs of wanting to head north, into London and The South East, but only for a day or two.

This is where it gets really complicated. The heat on the mainland coincides with an area of Low Pressure and this is likely to trigger off some severe thunderstorms over there. The outflow from these could bring a lot of cloud to our region, which would supress our temperatures.

By Wednesday London and The South East could be seeing maximum temperatures of anywhere between 23-30c ( 73-86f ), depending on how much cloud cover we have as a result of the storms across The Channel. In any event it is likely to feel very humid by midweek. Some of the thunderstorms could also make their way across The Channel to reach our region Wednesday/ Thursday. Southern Coastal areas may also see an outbreak of thunderstorms on Monday night, ahead of the main threat later in the week.

So.......to try and summarise.

It's another unsettled week ahead, varying amounts of cloud, sunny spells, and occasional showers. Starting off mild, warm and humid by midweek with a medium risk of thunderstorms, becoming cooler again towards next weekend.

Thanks for reading and posting. Moley :? 8-)

***UPDATED WEDNESDAY JUNE 19th 2013 @ 16:00 Hrs***

Warmest day of the year so far and the temperature in the London area reached 26c ( 79f ) an hour ago. Cloud cover has increased considerably since then and all weather eyes are looking to our south where once again some severe thunderstorms have erupted in France this afternoon.

This is more or less a repeat of yesterdays events over there, and overnight those storms passed through The Straights of Dover and out into the North Sea. It is possible the storms today may take a more northerly direction, and head into Southern England later this evening and overnight.

The Met Office have issued a warning, but for now it is just a low risk. I will try and update later.

Moley 8-)

Just in case anyone is still reading.......

The severe thunderstorms over France earlier today have given up on their trek north towards the UK so unless the situation changes dramatically overnight**, the worst we will see here in London and the South East is some rain.

** Possible, but very unlikely.

There seems to be a common denominator there Kremm. :(

Todays thunderstorm risk for London and The South East.....about 5% is my guess. Everything stayed on mainland Europe, France and Germany in particular. Hamburg had a spectacular thunderstorm overnight which raged on for 5/6 hours.
