I really appreciate all the replies I get on this topic so please do keep posting. As long as the weather is mentioned somewhere then it's not off topic as far as I'm concerned.

For BG's bike ride this evening the rain radar says it should be dry, but the radar has failed to pick up on the drizzle we've had for most of today. That's par for the course because drizzle is not registered as rainfall.

The rest of the evening will be dull and damp. I hate this type of weather.

Moley :(

It's been dull and damp all day hasn't it. We have managed to take the dog out every day though - despite the rain.

How are you getting there? By car? It's not too far to walk if you go along the canal

Is it going to freeze again tonight Moley?

Ah we went by car, and just got home with second prize a bottle of Champers, it was surpringly warm considering the dampness.

Will try again next week

In complete contrast to last nights very short lived freeze ( less than an hour ) the temperature at Raf Northolt has remained above 12c ( 54f ) right throughout the night. So has the rain and drizzle unfortunately.

There are some tentative signs that colder air may be approaching the UK next week, introducing drier conditions with a chance of overnight frost and fog, but that's still a long way off in forecasting terms.

I really appreciate all the replies here, so please do feel free to contribute.

I am just experimenting with how easy it is to post photo's here, as it would be nice to include some weather/wildlife photo's in the thread. Apologies if this attempt fails, I make no secret of the fact I'm a complete bozo when it comes to technology !!

Hopefully this will be a photo of a fox in the snow:

Edit: Failure due too file being too big, oh well, back to the drawing board. :(

Start an account at PhotoBucket.

Then upload your photos in .JPG format. I haven't used PB for a while but I think there is a facility for downsizing photos to be more webpage compatible.

Once you've done that there is a facility to auto copy the IMG link.

One step at a time though, open a PhotoBucket account

Thanks Kremm. I did have a Photobucket account at one time but heard bad reports about them recently so a bit wary. I might try it again some time.

Those tentative signs I mentioned in my earlier post are now beginning to take shape as we head towards next week. There is growing agreement amongst the computer models that we could be in for a spell of cold weather approaching from the north once we get beyond the weekend.

Details are still far from certain but I am now fairly confident that we are in for an early glimpse of winter in some parts of the UK, with snow possible even at lower levels in the north.

Down here in London and The South East we should avoid the white stuff, but daytime maximums may struggle to reach 4-6c ( 39-42f ) for a few days. If that's the case overnight frost will be widespread inland if the skies remain clear of cloud. Between now and then this weekend could throw up some rather unpleasant conditions, I'll try and update on that later.
