Good

I saw the 'severe gales' warning as a headline on the Beeb this morning before noticing that it was for them who are considering breaking free from the UK.

Well not entirely true Kremm. The latest Met Office severe weather warning does cover quite an extensive area, not just those wanting to break free from the UK :!:

Yes, I see that a tidal surge is forecast for the Eastern area.

Hopefully another worse than it's really going to be forecast

^^^ The storm surge is a matter of some concern, particularly down eastern coasts as far south as Kent. Residents of coastal communities in Norfolk are being told to prepare for possible evacuation later today.

The list of Severe Flood Warnings issued by the Environment Agency has risen rapidly in the last few hours. I haven't checked the website recently, but I would advise anyone living in coastal areas to check the updates regularly. On the EA website the flood warnings extended as far south and west as Fairlight in East Sussex.

I'm reading on websites that at the moment Newcastle for example is really suffering.

****Environment Agency Update issued at 11am Thursday December 5th 2013****

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/news/151075.aspx

According to this latest update some coastal areas are now being evacuated. Thankfully our coastal defences have been significantly improved since 1953, but there is clearly still some cause for concern.

Large scale evacuations now taking place in Norfolk, along with widespread flood defence measures including sand bagging.

http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/regional_pi ... _1_3080978

Coastal flooding is now affecting a number of regions including North Wales, The Wirral, Cumbria and Lancashire. The areas still most at risk though appear to be the East Coast from Humberside down to Kent, and the threat remains for the next 12-36 hours according to current estimates.

Tricky landing attempts at Birmingham Airport earlier today due to strong winds, but I have seen and experienced worse !

**** LATEST ENVIRONMENT AGENCY FLOOD WARNING UPDATE ****

The latest update has now extended coastal flood warnings much further south and west. They now extend as far west as Bournemouth and Poole.
