The barometer is now falling and is 976 as I type at 15:00

I can't remember what is the lowest I've seen on my barometer, which is probably a different reading to the professional ones. I think I've seen 966 once ?

***UPDATED MONDAY DECEMBER 23rd 2013 @ 22:45hrs***

Ding ding, seconds away, round 2. Quite frankly I am struggling to keep up with developments but will do my best.

The first wave of this storm affected much of London and The South East during this afternoon and was followed by a relative lull earlier this evening. That lull is now well and truly over.

Pressure has now fallen to 985mb at Northolt but at the centre of the Low ( north west of the UK ) pressure has fallen to 935mb and is predicted to drop to a near record 928mb in the next 12-24 hours.

Winds right across our region are currently increasing significantly, and expected to peak between now and approximately 3am. There are reports that a ' sting jet '** may be forming within this storm, which if true would further increase the winds at ground level.

Seems to be over for now. Managed to get into work. Just a few puddles to deal with.

Lovely day for this mornings bike ride to Langley and Black parks, followed by a drive and walk round Cranford Park this afternoon after Turkey sandwiches of course .

What will the weather bring tomorrow?

Good evening all and I hope your Christmas Day was a good one.

As BG said in the previous post it was pretty much an ideal day here in the London area, a bit chilly but mainly dry and sunny. It was not the case further south though where some hefty rain and hail showers ( accompanied by thunder and lightning at times ) rattled through parts of Hampshire, Sussex and Kent for several hours on Christmas Day morning.

Another area of rain/hail/thunder has headed up from the English Channel during the evening, with the rain reaching the London area around 9pm, and it has hit some of the areas that least need it. I will be updating the outlook shortly.

Thanks as always for reading and posting. Moley :|

The Boxing Day outlook for London and The South East is not too bad at all during the day, but the next low pressure system is already building up in the Atlantic and is expected to make it's presence felt late on Thursday and overnight into Friday.

The current track suggests the north of the Uk will bear the brunt of the gales and whilst it may be breezy in the south, the rainfall is the main concern for our region.

The ground across much of the south is already saturated, and flooding has been a real problem in some places already. A further 20-40mm's of rain is the last thing needed, but that is what's being predicted. I hope the predictions are wrong.

Yes, I feel for the people of Leatherhead and Guildford and surrounding districts who have been flooded out, especially over Xmas.
