A bit colder today I thought, but didn't get out on the bike til 2pm and with a couple of punctures standing around repairing them along with evening drawing in, the wood burner going full flow was a welcome sight.

I'm hoping to cycle to Windsor before the end of the week if the weather holds out

Thanks to everyone who continues to read and post here, and I hope you all had a Very Happy Christmas.

My apologies for not posting more often during what has been yet another spell of quite stormy weather, though thankfully London and The South East has escaped the worst of it and the worst of the flooding in our region has abated for now.

I wish I could bring some good news as we rapidly head towards The New Year but the Jet Stream seems reluctant to relax it's grip and the latest computer models are showing a conveyor belt of Low Pressure systems heading across the Atlantic, and more or less in our direction.

So, the outlook for the next 7 days remains very unsettled with a continuation of wet and windy weather interspersed with occasional spells of drier and brighter weather.

If you have any plans for outdoor festivities on New Years Eve you may just be in luck, as the rain will hopefully clear most of the South East by the evening. New Years Day itself is not looking so good as another sytem threatens to deliver more in the way of wet and windy weather. Beyond that there are tentative signs that this weather pattern may change later next week, something I will be trying to keep a watch on, health permitting.

In the meantime I would once again like to thank everyone who reads and posts here, and I wish you all the very best for 2014, whatever the weather.

Moley. 8-)

I'm glad the rain finally stopped to enable me to get out on the bike for the last time this year. I was able to achieve my goal of 1500 miles.

I'm hoping to kick off 2014 with a bike ride tomorrow too weather permitting

Just a very quick update from me this New Years Eve.

A line of heavy showers are heading towards London and The South East as I type, some of which are thundery. Bad timing. :(

Yup managed to get out for a sneaky ride to Windsor today as the weather was so good, but looking at the BBC App it's not looking good for the forecast on show til Monday.

^^^ The forecasts and predictions for the next 24-96 hours are not good it has to be said. I am trying to keep up with/ahead of events, but it's a fast developing situation.

As the next Atlantic storm approaches the UK in the early hours of Friday there is concern about possible coastal flooding in the South West initially, then the South Coast later in the day. The Environment Agency are regularly updating their warnings and these include the threat of river flooding much further inland for parts of London and The South East.

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ho ... st&from=fl

Please take heed of these warnings and where possible stay tuned to local radio and tv stations for further updates.

This time the immediate threat is not so much from the winds, though they are likely to be strong to gale force at times. It's more a combination of wind, storm surges and very high spring tides over the next few days for coastal areas.

Into the weekend the risk of flooding extends further inland for our region as some models are suggesting a further 50-75mm's ( 2-3" ) of rainfall between now and Monday, falling on ground that is already saturated, if not already flooded.

Moley :(

It's just started lashing down again :(

My patio door is south facing so I can hear the rain bashing it when the wind is strong

Freezing temps in NW Florida for a couple of days, lots of snow up north, big storm and another coming.
