I'll bet a mixture of old mining works and the recent rainfall has had a hand in this ?

Pinner has huge chalk mines. I was told it extended under a School, shops and scores if not hundreds of houses on top, but I have just found a website which disputes that

I went down the mine some years back (bloody hard work when carrying a large professional video camera!) and it is vast. You can still see the black marks on the roof from miner's candles when the mine was a low tunnel. In subsequent years they just kept digging to leave 24ft high ceilings & a vast labyrinth of tunnels

It has been subject to numerous collapses over the years, but I am not aware of any sink holes

There used to be a lot of talk, of underground bunkers in and around High Wycombe. I believe they were associated with the "Amreican air base".

According to the news yesterday it wasn't a mine working but clay over chalk and the recent heavy rainfall that is dissolving the chalk layer :o
