I have tried to introduce a new member to this topic but it seems he is having problems registering which is a shame, not least because he is far more knowledgable than me on weather related matters. Persevering though.

and as if by magic.... :D

Afternoon all and thank you for the brief intro Moley. Hi all. I'm Coast and as the name suggests I don't live in the city or anywhere near it, but here on the coast of East Sussex. I hope to compliment Moley's knowledge of the weather from time to time with my own ramblings that really are as much hunch as science (with a few indicators of what we might expect thrown in, to show I'm not totally blagging it!). Between us we should be able to guide you as to if it's going to be BBQ's or brollies - the caveat is I am only an enthusiastic amateur, so don't vastly change your life to accommodate any information I might pass on!

Hopefully put a smile on a few faces, I saw this earlier and it looks like we could be coming to the end of the very wet few weeks we have had to endure so far this year:

Quote:
“Going forward into Monday, we should have a fairly decent day. The band of rain that the North West is seeing will move south east overnight and pass through Yorkshire, down through the Midlands and into Dorset. “But it will be a lot weaker and by Monday afternoon will have fizzled out into nothing, with many places enjoying quite a dry and bright day with temperatures of about 10 or 11 degrees.” Mr Powell said further wet weather was expected to hit Wales and the South West of England on Tuesday and Wednesday, before the arrival of drier conditions. He said: “Monday night through to Tuesday there will be a band of rain pushing from the West, but it will pass through quickly in about six hours and won’t give huge amounts of rainfall.

“On Wednesday night another band of rain will push its way from the West, but again will pass through quite quickly. “I don’t think it’s going to make things any worse for the flood victims, but it will slow up the drying out process.” And Mr Powell had good news for next month, predicting a period of much more settled weather – and even some sun. He said: “After next weekend we should start to pick up something a bit more settled. It will be a little bit colder, but brighter and drier. “Going forward into March it looks like we are in for a spell of calmer conditions, which will be good news for many.”

Some computer weather models are already hinting at a drier period at the end of the week and possibly even a full day of sunshine Sunday and slight cloud next Monday:

Not quite shorts and shades, but getting nearer.

Well today at midday when I ventured out of the house for a meeting at work, I couldn't believe the fantastic weather, so down came the roof and a bit of 80's music (Katrina and the wave) put me in a fab mood ready for my dire project lessons learnt presentation.

And looking at the weather for the weekend I might get the two wheels out again woo hoo!!

EDITED to say hope you get better soon Moley

Hi Coast :D

I don't suppose February is the best time of the year to be forecasting weather as it can be so unpredictable and changeable.

I keep meaning to go out on a Sat/Sun and giving the motor the once over but I look at the week ahead and just think 'what's the point' as at least one day has rain forecast and my M25 journey will put it back to square one :(

Ah yes! The joys of open air motoring and a bit of music turned up loud on the car music system. Hopefully a few more opportunities to come in the next few weeks.

Hi Kremmen!

Moley will tell you that trying to forecast any weather in the UK is a nightmare, but these months leading into Spring are especially difficult. The trends and patterns are pointing towards a slow down of the terrible wet Winter weather we have been getting, hopefully we can put some finer detail on that as we go through March.

You're off to a flying start Coast :!:

Yesterday ( Monday ) saw a very respectable 14.9c recorded in Gravesend and although maximum temperatures are likely to dip a few degrees over the next few days I don't see anything to worry about too much here in London and South East over the next few days.

Having said that, the models now seem reluctant to deliver the ridge of High Pressure they were predicting in earlier runs for next week. Your thoughts Coast ?

Moley. 8-)
