The idea is a good one but sadly it will never be implemented, certainly not as a National Service Bill.

I sincerely hope the Bill does fail. I disagree that it is a good idea for several reasons:
1: A blanket compulsory National Service as described in the Bill has nothing to do with the defence of the realm. On the contrary, this government is doing its very best at following Labour's lead in destroying the defence structures that were designed to protect this nation. Actually; under the heading of “Scope of the scheme” and in sub-section (1), the scheme is named the “National Citizen Service”. It is only later in the Bill that there is reference to work “connected with the Armed Forces”, and almost as an aside.

2: As the quote from the Bill in my post above suggests, training in political correctness appears to be the primary purpose of this Bill. For example: “tolerance towards others” is to be part of the 'training' process. This political use of the word 'tolerance' has become a key factor in controlling the way we all think, speak, and behave, so much so that the word "tolerance" should now come with a public health warning.

3: The suggested National Citizen Service appears to provide corrective action for what is lacking in the upbringing and education of ALL young people. This inference is outrageous; because NOT all young people are lacking in essential life-skills. Many young people are better equipped than are the vast majority of the political elite. After all, the same political elite have shown us all how untrustworthy they are, how deceitful they are, and how unpatriotic they are.

4: With reference to my reason 3 above: this Bill is attempting to punish/correct ALL young people, even those who don't warrant or need the state to correct them. Once again, this is political correctness in action - it fails to differentiate between the 'guilty' and the 'innocent'.

5: Because the Bill provides for a universal 'corrective treatment' of ALL young people, the assumption appears to be that the political elite think they know better than we do regarding what is best for ourselves and our children. The Bill is basically declaring that ALL parents are incapable of raising their own children to be responsible members of society – this is blatantly untrue, and is another outrage. This assumption actually declares that the state views our children as political possessions, or pawns in their globalist plans.

The answer to this I am sure lies somewhere between the two positions!!

National Training but administered with a Military hand.

With all respect Geezer; “a military hand” does not necessarily provide the best training for responsible civilian life. I have never served in the armed forces, but I have probably spent a total of several years working with military personnel, both on their military bases, and in civilian surroundings. And my experiences do not convince me that military training is necessarily the best background for responsible civilian life. True, I've met and worked with some very good military staff over the years; I have also had the misfortune of working with some military people who were quite incapable of coping with life in the civilian world – they had been so conditioned to responding to orders/instructions that they became like lost puppets without a puppeteer when they had to make their way in the civillian world; quite unable to think, plan and take responsibility for themselves. Maybe that is the aim of the National Citizen Service, to pressurise all young people into a common purpose mould of uniformity, where they can only jump when they are ordered to.

In military training I tried to impress a position where this would be for short periods only, they having to report at a certain time, completing teamwork tasks ect, confidence building if you like and teaching them the importance of timekeeping, make appointments ect on time and that it is not acceptable to lay in bed most of the day (as most unemployed youngsters do today).

Weapon training and more specific military tasks would not be on the curriculum.

But it really isn't necessary to impose this regime on EVERY young person, is it?
