Nasty accident on the A40 at lunchtime when an artic hit a stationary laden tipper truck

OUCH! http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/news/loc ... 40-7534385

I saw the Police helicopter swoop in over my house as if it was landing (which is unusual), followed 2 minutes later by HEMS.

Nasty but both OK

What is it about that stretch of road? I suppose after many miles of trundling down the M40 they lose concentration.

Not this one Kremen as it was westbound towards Oxford

I understand that the artic was following another LGV. The 1st truck pulled out around the tipper at the last moment leaving this poor guy to slam into the stationary truck. From a friend who attended the incident, the artic didn't even manage to brake before hitting the tipper! I wonder if he will be nicked for 'driving with undue attention' (or wotever that offence is called)

With no hard shoulder and motorway speeds, its no wonder people continue to die on this hideous road. They really could do with overhead matrix signs linked to traffic cameras between the M40 and Hangar Lane (like they have on motorways where they run on the hard shoulder).

Ah, didn't realise that.

Driving too close then. That shows why opening the hard shoulder on other motorways is not a good idea.
