I don't think any of this is the blame of the Spanish apart from a bit of discretion in parading the parents about in handcuffs.

I am getting the impression the real villain of the piece here is the European Arrest Warrant. It is beginning to look like there is little room for manoeuvre once one has been issued.

Seem to recall Nick Clegg bigging it up in one of his TV debates against Farage. Saying it allowed us to pursue criminals and terrorists across European Borders.

Says it all really. A piece of legislation brought into being for the pursuit of terrorists and real criminals being used to crack down on honest parents on some spurious neglect charge and to separate them from from their very sick child.

Some of the papers are reporting that the child is terminal and that he may only have 2 to 3 Months. Separation at this stage under such circumstances due to bureaucracy and vindictiveness of the state cannot be excused or justified. The 3 days the parents are now incarcerated where there is no criminal charge nor likely to be one are precious and they will be lost forever.

Just another tick in the UKIP box now as far I am concerned.

Westonman often refers to cases here which are subject to the secrecy of the Family Court Division. This is one which is front and centre in the glare and it does not look pretty.

I wonder why it is so difficult to find some 'room for manouvre' or for anything to be revoked once these decisions have been made.

In these tragic circumstances, I would just say 'you are free to go to your little boy now' and if there are questions to answer, leave them to another time. They are not harming or endangering anyone.

It is good to see that the elder brother is now able to visit Aysha. It will surely be hard to explain to a boy as young as he is why his parents are suddenly not there. The little boy is physically safe in hospital, but he needs to be free from mental and emotional harm if he is soon to be going through more treatment somewhere else.

If, as it seems happened, he suddenly found himself in a new hospital he didn't know and without preparation from his parents, he must have, or is suffering distress missing them being with him. His emotional welfare is important to cope with everything that is happening and his future treatment which is being offered for him.

http://www.change.org/p/police-reun...p ... e_petition

The obligatory petition has reached 83,000+ signatures in less than 24 hours.

Sky news now reporting that the CPS are considering 'dropping the case' whatever that means.

As I understand it the Euro arrest warrant cannot be cancelled, it now has to run it's course.

It seems the brakes are being slammed on sharpish and the gearbox is making strange noises as they search for the reverse gear.

And searching for the Compassionate gear? I, for one, hope they come across it quickly.

So, even the parents are separated and in different jails. I think that Aysha's mother, at least, should be taken to him immediately if they can't release both of them straight away, for whatever reasons they have.

Suddenly, all the jobsworths are coming out of the woodwork in support of the parents. The latest being the leader of Portsmouth City Council who requested the "retrospective" court order issued on Friday.

They seem to sense the wind of change. Perhaps something good will come out of this fiasco.

At last, better news, but the reunion of parents with their son may not be until tomorrow. This situation has, at least, shown how important the human issue is and should be considered paramount, especially when a young and sick child is involved.

I asked the question today, but not on here, why the parents weren't released on bail because it was beyond my understanding why they were both put in prison. I hate to imagine anyone making the decision under the circumstances and causing a very sick child and family to be split up.

I just hope that this family will be reunited as soon as possible and they can move on to get the treatment they desperately want for their son.

I have removed part of this post, which was adding some of my own experience which seemed relevant. Reading it later, I thought it would be more interesting if I were to give more clarifying details and so the part I have removed is saved for the future.

I imagine the social services are already working on a plan to put the other kids into care.

The parents were arrested under the authority of the European Arrest Warrant. Normally a tool used to stop terrorists and major criminals fleeing across borders. There is no provision for bail until certain criteria are met. Yesterdays fiasco was because the CPS submitted all the papers in English and it was s Spanish judge presiding with a poor understanding of English.

He remanded in custody to get a better understanding of what the case was about and waited for documents to be translated.

It must be awful to be imprisoned by a judge who didn't have a full understanding of someone's plight and was waiting for documents to be translated. I wonder what reason Mr and Mrs King were given to explain them being locked up. :|
