From the MET Police:

Quote:
Recruitment Update
Policing a population of over 8 million people, home to over 40 different communities who speak in excess of 300 different languages is challenging and complex, so it's critical we recruit the best people with the right skills to police London.
For this reason we're introducing an additional language eligibility criteria as a key skill to become a Police Constable. Whilst our Police Officers are able to effectively carry out their duties without the ability to speak a second language, a Police Constable with this skill is an asset in helping both themselves and their colleagues to more effectively engage with the community and deal with everyday policing situations. To apply you must be able to speak one of the 14 languages below:

Yoruba (Nigeria)

Hebrew

Arabic

Hindi

Punjabi

Italian

German

Turkish

Greek

Spanish

Polish

Portuguese

Sinhali (Sri Lanka)

Bengali

Unless you meet our eligibility criteria, you are unable to submit an application to become a Police Officer at this stage. However, you can still apply to become a Special Constable with the Met. More details can be found here
If you don't have the relevant language skills outlined above, but still want to become a Police Constable, you can register here to receive details of future recruitment campaigns. Please note, we do not currently have any plans to open general Police Constable recruitment.

How about the new citizens learning to speak English?

Gosh. I assumed that was a wind up. I see you can't join if you "are or ever have been a member of the BNP or similar organisations". That word "similar" is a bit vague. I wonder what it covers?

Maybe it is the beginning of a pan European police force?

Err..that would be 'positive discrimination', a 'hate crime', a criminal offence in these days of enforced political correctness by a politically correct Common Purpose driven police service/force.

They covered this initiative on LBC the other morning and trotted the HR spokesman for the Met out for an interview.

Talk about the question avoidance and obfuscation of politicians. This woman's demonstration was weapons grade material. Never once answered a question to the point.
