Five of the world’s biggest investment banks paid no corporation tax in the UK last year despite making billions of pounds in profits - is there little wonder we have little confidence in the 'fairness' of the tax system when such flagrant (but 'legal') abuses are allowed to go unchecked. And of course it's not just banks ....

Now if you're a small business then HMRC can cause you serious grief .....

Just so long as HMRC fearlessly crack down on the self employed and small businesses.

HMRC go for the easy touch, those who will not contest or cost them a fortune in legal fees. Perhaps anyone receiving a demand should contest it and await court proceedings and cite these high profile cases and plead for leniency. Too many legal cases will overwhelm the system, just like the parking ticket system...

No point them being scared of the likes of Google and Amazon because the loss of tax if they go away is small anyway.
