Of the forums I visit the comment about Macca has been consistent throughout, he's a spent force

Very rarely do I watch repeats of anything. I plan later today to watch the whole ceremony again on the I player..

I did the very same thing. Im still not quite sure what to make of it all, typically Danny Boyle though. I thought the NHS section dragged on a bit and there was too much reliance on the 'pop culture'. Paul McCartney was woeful.

Am I alone in thinking its about time we stopped wheeling these relics from the 60's/70's/80's out every time there is a big occasion ? Macca, Elton John, Cliff Richard, Tom Jones etc. The usual suspects, its getting boring now. Ok, they weren't all at the opening ceremony but you get my drift....they were at the Jubilee celebrations.

Overall I thought it was a good opening ceremony, a bit bonkers and as such typically British !!

Macca was awful! (He should just stick to WRITING the music now!)

Also, I do wish the Queen would smile a bit more! She IS supposed to be representing this country!

on reflection , it was good , and better than just a show of lights , and stunts , like all the others , just to out do the others
It was over long , the NHS bit much to long , the music , better to have shown clips from how the groups were , not now .
A maypole ??? when did you last see one of them ??
A girl on a mobile phone ???? , what people thought in the stadium ??? i would have been lost without the commentary.

If you can bear it, have a listen to Macca's opening of Hey Dude on BBC iPlayer. It's all over the place, with what seems half his band singing the line before he joins in.

It's at about 3hrs, 40 mins, and 15 seconds. What a mess

Good grief. I have just watched that section again and it was appallingly bad. Time to call it a day Sir Paul.

On a positive note, I thought Lizzie Armitstead's performance in the womens cycling road race was nothing short of spectacular. The conditions for much of the race were appalling but she showed real guts and determination. Unlike the GB mens team the day before who for some reason chose to blame everyone but themselves for an epic fail.

Well done Lizzie.

I have to say. I have really enjoyed the games so far. The road cycling races have been fantastic and shown real super human athletes at their most amazing

(note to Mr Beckham and all the overpaid footballers, could you give your absolute best for 6 continuous hours without a break, or would you be rolling around with cramp after 70 mins?).

However, I am disappointed about the empty seat fiasco and cannot believe the politicians idiotic quick fix solutions:

The Tory's want to give tickets to teachers and students. Erm,,,, How? All the Schools have broken up for summer
Meanwhile Labour want to give tickets to the Police. How? Sadly all Met, BTP and county force Police leave and rest days has been cancelled. Most coppers are doing additional hours and only get time off to sleep. So where are the coppers going to find the time?

Lastly, Lord Coe (and Boris) seem to be rather dismissive of the whole matter. Mind you, they would be as it's ultimately their fault

If what they say is true and not tongue in cheek, then the seats have been paid for, then surely they can be sold again at the turnstiles, and make a super profit from the games, or upgrade them that have paid with free entry for any kids that turn up, organise!!! they could not organise a booze up in a brewary. they did not have a problem dibbing into my pension so pay for it all, Londoners have been ripped off big time, its time they started earn their corn. :) ;)
