I quite often get it wrong Pam, but the mega bucks would come in handy

Seriously though folks, please follow my advice to stay tuned to the professional forecasts in the coming days. Thats not to say you can ignore mine.....how very dare you !!

In the last week of watching the computer model runs there was fairly good agreement amongst them all bar one on this forthcoming cold snap/spell. Well tonight ( Thursday ) that 'rogue' model finally came to its senses and fell into line with the rest.

Colder air has already arrived as Im sure some of you will have noticed today, and thats earlier than originally predicted. However this is just an appetiser for the main course which will be arriving during the weekend, and continuing into next week. A very cold air mass is located to our east and seems almost certain to head our way and cover much of the UK in the next few days. Daytime temperatures really will struggle to get much above freezing once this sets in. How long it will last is anyones guess at this stage.

That part of the forecast is fairly easy. The difficult, nay near impossible part is predicting precipitation. Thats rain, sleet and snow to us mere mortals. I still think we will see a combination of these on SATURDAY, with the rain eventually turning to snow as the weekend progresses. I would slightly downgrade my earlier guesstimates of snow depths for the weekend BUT.........

.......The current signs are showing the potential for some quite significant snowfall for the middle of next week in London and The South East. I will be updating this nearer the time......but for now..... Tuesday into Wednesday of next week are worth bearing mind.

I have just wasted another hour of my life trying to predict the unpredictable and my post disappeared into the ether. S*d it.

Anyway, its snowing here in Hastings, and probably where you are to. I will try and update later.

My Mrs went to Malvern over the weekend by train and was a bit worried about not being able to get back due to the weather.

Weather is fine but a vehicle has hit a bridge between Pershore and Evesham so the trains are cancelled

***UPDATED TUESDAY JANUARY 15TH 2012 @ 17.30 Hrs***

Greetings from the South Coast, where the sun always shines and the welcome is always warm 8-).

Well yesterday was a real mixed bag down here in Sussex, snow soon turned to rain and it was a fairly dismal day all round. Norfolk seems to be in the firing line from 'lake effect' type snow feeding in from the North Sea today, with some reports of up to 15cms ( 6" ) of lying snow in some locations there.

The rest of this week looks set to remain cold, with occasional snow showers drifting into eastern counties, but my attention is now drawn towards the end of the working week.....FRIDAY and into SATURDAY

Early signs are that this period may well see something of a 'battle ground' scenario, with milder air trying to push in from The Atlantic meeting up with the colder air to our east. It could get messy. I will try and update my thoughts nearer the time, but we may be heading for some significant snowfall as the weekend approaches.

Marham in Norfolk recorded the official ( Met Office ) low temperature for England last night. -13.4c ( 8f ), but a nearby weather station recorded -18.4c ( -1f ).

Friday really needs watching in terms of potential snowfall, and I will be updating nearer the time.

I would strongly advise you to follow the Met Office advisories in the meantime.
