^^ Currently 1.5c at Raf Northolt, and after a brief lull its snowing moderately again here in Northwood. Heavy snow now falling in the Reigate area according to a report in the last few minutes.

I have to say I'm quite suprised by just how persistant and long lasting this snow event is turning out to be. 22 hours all bar about 30 minutes so far.

What's it looking like for the first week of March in your crystal ball as I need it to warm up a bit?

Here you go Kremmen. This is the latest outlook from The Met Office, ( updated today - February 11th ) which seems to be pretty much in line with what other weather folk are suggesting. Not exactly encouraging for any signs of warmth into March is it ?

Link deleted as it doesn't work. My apologies, but The Met Office website is quite frankly one of the worst I have come across for ease of use. The same applies to their android app as well.

We had more snow here than Swindon had. It snowed very briefly there this morning but nothing like we had here. I think its much colder tonight :(

Just been to Mount Vernon and back on a cold bus :(

Whilst gazing out of the bus window I noticed the number of parked cars by the road and on driveways that obviously never get used. Most of them had a 1" thick layer from the windscreen wipers going about half way up the screen.

^^ Indeed Kremmen. My car may have been one of those you saw, depending which bus you were on. It still has at least a 1" covering of snow on the front and back screens this afternoon. I think we eventually had almost 25 hours of continuous snow in one form or another here in Northwood before it finally fizzled out yesterday evening.

There are signs of a brief milder spell occuring from about Wednesday night into the weekend. There is a low to moderate risk of further light snowfall overnight Wednesday, quickly turning to rain for most of London and The South East. Temperatures will probably rise to 7-9c ( 45-49f ), perhaps a degree or 2 higher in some spots by the weekend.

The following week looks like being dominated by High Pressure, so most likely dry, with a bit more in the way of sunshine, but frosts returning at night.

The link I was trying to post yesterday is the Met Office 16-30 day outlook from February 26th - March 12th, if you can find it on their website. Their opinion is that its likely to be colder than average for the time of year.

The snow has arrived a bit earlier than I predicted here in the London area, but it will be a short lived event as clearer weather follows just behind, then a spell of rain overnight. Becoming milder for the next few days.

 Ok, a spell of heavy rain then

It was nice to see a patch of blue sky and a glimpse of that rare beast aka the sun in the sky today though. The sunshine total for JANUARY 2013 at HEATHROW was a miserly 34.5 hours, or 58% of the 30 year average for that location/month. A fraction over 1 hour a day is pretty bleak, even in mid-winter. The latest figures I can find for FEBRUARY 2013 ( Heathrow ) are for the first 7 days only, weighing in at 21.9 hours. I suspect the figures for the second week will be much lower.

Looking ahead......I think this weekend will be mostly dry for much of London and The South East, with maximum daytime temperatures just about remaining on the milder side of average ( see the numbers I posted above ) but with south easterly winds increasing by SUNDAY/MONDAY it won't feel particularly pleasant. It should at least help the ground dry out a little though, which is a good thing.

Beyond the weekend I am still fairly confident we will see a return to colder weather, dry at first, but with an increasing risk of snow showers encroaching from the east as the week progresses.

The main computer models are as usual, struggling to reach agreement on this, but the European based one is hinting at a very wintry end to the month.

Totally unrelated to weather I know, but I thought I would mention the subject here since this thread gets a lot of views. ( I thank you all for that ).

What are your thoughts on this mornings news from Russia about that meteorite ??

There is a good deal of quite spectacular footage out there on the internet so I won't post any links for now, but it seems to have been quite an event, and appears to have litererally slipped under the radar on its way to earth.

Apparently NASA missed it and they have most of these under observation.

Back to the weather though - can you have a word with him upstairs about a nice day for the 1st March so I can get the new jam jar home and into the garage - still clean.
