Do not fear, Krem's motor is parked in a garage at home and in a secure underground car park at work.

So is it snow or a sandstorm ? Place your bets now................

Is it also warpped in cotton wool Krem :?: ;)

To answer your question : Its the Uk weather we are talking about here, so it could be snow, sand/duststorm, both or neither, possibly at the same time but probably not.

Raf Northolt recorded exactly 10.0c yesterday afternoon Krem, is that in line with what your car thermometer was showing ?
Iv'e always been quite impressed with their accuracy and never quite fathomed how that can be. Does anyone know whereabouts on the vehicle the measuring device is located, and what prevents it from being distorted by engine heat etc ??

It could be on the air intake to the air filter. The computer for running the engine, would need this information to run correctly.

^^ Thanks for that explanation Batty Bat. It is something that has always puzzled me.

Well after two glorious Spring like days I'm afraid its all downhill now for the foreseeable future. A succession of Atlantic Low Pressure systems are building to the west and south of the UK, shunting the High Pressure away to our east. The next few days will be unsettled, with showers or longer spells of rain for much of London and The South East.

It will also become colder, and temperatures could drop quite sharply by SUNDAY/MONDAY. The maximum I have seen recorded today in our region is 17.1c at Gravesend, but 16.3c at Northolt was the 4th highest temperature in the country. So from the low 60's f today, we could be looking at temperatures of 4-5c ( 39-41f ) by the start of next week.

.......So we can expect a few days with the temperature gradually climbing before the rain arrives later next week, but its just beyond then that is catching my eye. One of the most reliable computer models is showing a return to wintry conditions in a week or so time.

If that model verifies, I wouldnt rule out some unseasonably cold temperatures and fairly widespread snowfall for much of the country.

**UPDATED WEDNESDAY MARCH 6th 2013**

The Met Office are slowly but surely beginning to fall in line with this prediction for much colder weather to reach the UK by the end of the weekend, and into the first few days of next week.

Don't be too suprised if maximum temperatures in our region struggle to get much above 1-2c
( 33-34F ) on Monday/Tuesday.

Just out of interest, I see this thread gets literally thousands of views ( now over 13,000 ) but very few replies/posts back. Any feedback is always welcomed.

NB: Here comes the rain, right on time !!

I noted the met office now falling into line with you for next week :)

When's it going to warm up for Spring ?

See Krem, if I say it loud enough the Met Office will eventualy hear me !! To be honest their computer models were disagreeing with several other agency models for most of this week, and it took them a few days to come on board. I think they were being uber cautious yet again, and I can understand why, to a point.

FRIDAY is looking a bit bleak, with the potential for several hours of heavy rain in London and The South East. We could see up to 25mm's ( 1" ) in places.

Although next weeks cold snap is projected to be fairly short lived ( 2-3 very cold days ), I'm afraid I don't see any imminent return to the glorious warmth and sunshine we had earlier this week, just a very gradual transition back to near average temperatures. I would like to be proved wrong though.

****UPDATED FRIDAY MARCH 8TH 2013 @ 1900 Hrs****

As I thought, FRIDAY has been a pretty miserable day for most of London and The South East and as we head into what I consider to be ' the reliable time frame ' the various computer models are now showing a good level of agreement on what lies ahead. If it's warm Spring weather you are after, forget it quite frankly.

Any doubts that much colder upper air would be reaching the UK later this weekend have now been dispelled. Its what happens next that is still in doubt and open to debate.

The concern now is the track and timing of Low Pressure Systems coming in from the Atlantic, and in particular the possibilty of a ' Channel Low ' developing towards the end of the weekend. That really does need watching, and the Met Office are watching it very closely.

I am still reluctant to say too much at this time based on the limted information I have access to, but our region ( London and The South East ) may be in for quite a shock.

Please as always, feel free to post your thoughts and comments. They are very much appreciated.

Ok Moley will look forward to a very cold and windy weekend, that is if the thick fog stays away from last week.

Keep us in the frame
